Sub Space

This is possibly one of the most difficult things to put down accurately in text - it's kinda like trying to describe an orgasm - different for everyone and can only be done by analogy, but I'll give it a go anyhow.

SubSpace is subjective, there are no two ways about this - SubSpace is a reality and entirely different for many submissives.

SubSpace is the whole set of emotional, mental, and physical feelings experienced by the submissive during a scene, it can vary in intensity, but generally as described below - it'll blow the sub's head.

You know when you've been sat down for a long time in the same position and on rare occasions you feel like you're floating away, or for those of you who have ever practised alpha state meditation, it's the same feeling - "The lights are on, but no-body's home!" feeling. You're there, completely and intensely focused into the moment, but also detached, sometimes likened to "Taking three steps back, in your mind". Subspace is all that, coupled with an intense kick of pleasure with all the strength of an orgasm mixed with a nuclear warhead. You will be higher than a kite in subspace. The section below on the Physiological Processes of SubSpace says all that in medical language...

Losing Control. Sometimes, rarely, a submissive can completely lose control of themselves when in this state, in which case the dom (They should be aware of this!) should take steps to bring the sub down a little, or sometimes stop the scene completely, and just give the sub a hug. This will rarely happen with an experienced submissive, as they will have the presence to enjoy SubSpace for what it is, and not overdose!

NOTE: SubSpace does occur in Self Bondage scenarios with equal levels of intensity, the same can be said for SubDrop...

BEWARE: Loss of SubSpace can and does invariably lead to SubDrop at some point in the near future.

Physiological Processes

(From Wikipedia - I couldn't have written it better myself)

During the scene, the intense experiences of both pain and pleasure trigger a sympathetic nervous system response, which causes a release of epinephrine from the suprarenal glands, as well as a dump of endorphins and enkephalins. These natural chemicals, part of the fight or flight response produce the same effect as a morphine-like drug, increasing the pain tolerance of the submissive as the scene becomes more intense. Producing a sort of trance-like state due to the increase of hormones and chemicals, the submissive starts to feel out-of-body, detached from reality, and as the high comes down, and the parasympathetic nervous system kicks in, a deep exhaustion, as well as incoherence. Many submissives once reaching a height of SubSpace will lose all sensation of pain, as any stimulus causes the period to prolong.
